Horses - "I Did It!" Makers - Wanted

TEC rider feeding horse

The horses at the TEC are special and serve a unique purpose.  They are the heart and soul of making “I Did It!” moments such as this happen.

“Andrew has had numerous health issues that kept him homebound; especially, in the fall and winter months.  He was socially delayed and suffered from low self-esteem.  Being able to ride “his horse” with his oxygen tank allowed him to be mobile and experience the joy of moving quickly.  He was so excited the first time he trotted that he threw his hands in the air and yelled, 'AWESOME!'” – Parent of Rider, Andrea G.

Finding just the right horse for TEC is challenging.  The job of a therapeutic horse is not easy.  It’s mentally and physically trying on the horse.  They work with a variety of riders who have differing degrees of capabilities, disabilities, personalities, and sizes.

The ideal therapy horse is:

  • Good in health

  • Sound at the walk, trot, and canter

  • Tolerant and calm

  • Safe to ride in the arena or outside

  • Obedient to both voice, hand, and leg signals

  • Accepting of assistive devices and equipment

Most of our horses have been donated or leased to TEC.  If you know of a horse that is looking for a career change, e-mail us or give us a call.
