Pony Express Editor

This volunteer position requires:

Ability to compile and edit information for the Pony Express, TEC’s internal newsletter. This is a monthly and occasionally bimonthly communication tool that is sent to rider’s, their families and volunteers.
Ability to use computer programs and the ability to send newsletter via email
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to design the newsletter to maintain reader’s interest
The ability to work without direct supervision
Coordinate with another TEC volunteer to mail copies to those without email
Maintain the data base for the TEC Roster and TEC Times


This position is done from home and the hours are flexible providing deadlines are met. The Pony Express goes out the first week of each month.

Job Description for writing for the TEC TIMES Quarterly Newsletter and Other Press Releases


This position requires:

  1. Excellent written communication skills
  2. The ability to meet deadlines
  3. The ability to work with other members of the Newsletter team and Chairperson of the PR Committee

Time required is flexible but person must be able to meet deadlines and work without direct supervision.  The TEC Times is published 4 times a year and press releases are done on an as needed basis.

Job Description for Coordinator of Horse Spa Days


This position requires:

  1. Excellent horse handling skills
  2. Friendly outgoing attitude to work with other fellow volunteers

Duties include:

  1. Organizing Horse Spa Days to be held several times a year
  2. Overseeing the Spa Day
  3. Coordinating with Barn Manager who is in charge of the horses

Time required is flexible but person must be able to meet deadlines and work without direct supervision.  The Spa Days are approximately 5 times a year and last for 2 hours or so. 

Job Description for Maintaining TEC Public Relations Booth

 

This position requires:

  1. The ability to meet deadlines and work without direct supervision
  2. Work with the other TEC members especially the PR Committee to see that the materials and display is up to date and is a good representation of our center.

Duties include:

  1. Getting the booth to the location for display or assigning someone. 
  2. Making arrangements for the booth to be removed from the location.
  3. Coordinating with other TEC members to have materials prepared (such as information for upcoming volunteer training sessions) and run off.
  4. Booth notebook up to date with most current TEC information.  Testimonials, budget, job descriptions etc.
  5. Update pictures for the display, signs, power point

 

Time required is somewhat flexible in terms of getting the booth ready.   TEC will train.  There are approx. 6 times a year that the booth is needed.  This could be a shared position.  This is an important position as it is someone’s first impression of the organization. 

Post Flyers

Approximately 6 times a year, several volunteers needed to post flyers in their community. Such places as post offices, grocery stores, drug stores, farm stores, churches etc. Flyers are posted before the start of each riding session and before special events.

Help with Mailings

Help with mailing out of the quarterly newsletter the TEC Times. Fold, apply mailing label and stickers to seal the newsletter. Approximate time several hours 4 times a year with the work done from your home. This volunteer(s) Could also help with folding and stuffing envelopes for the Pony Express our internal newsletter. Can be done from home and approximate time 1 hour a month.

TEC’s “Walmart Greeters”

This volunteer position requires:

A friendly outgoing personality. Greet people that come to TEC one time a week during riding lessons for 2-3 hours

Duties include:

Greeting visitors
Inform volunteers, rider’s and their families about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities
Collect rider and volunteer surveys at the end of sessions
Work in conjunction with TEC riding instructors so all involved have a positive experience
Answer volunteer and rider questions
TEC will train, but must have reliable transportation

Chairperson of Volunteer Committee

This volunteer position requires:

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with the other members of the committee and TEC staff.  Ability to meet deadlines without requiring direct supervision. Chairperson of the Volunteer Committee is responsible for supervising volunteer recruitment, recognition, record keeping, volunteer training and scheduling. This position requires attending some meetings but the majority of the job can be done from home via the phone and computer. Hours will vary approximately 2 hours a week.

Special Projects Volunteer Coordinator

This volunteer position requires:

Excellent communication skills. The ability to work without direct supervision  Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines. Work in conjunction with TEC staff and other volunteers that are chairpersons of events/work days

Responsibilities include:

Contact volunteers to work for special projects or events such as TEC Fest, work days
See that the paperwork is complete for volunteers coming for these projects
Work with PR chairperson and Volunteer Recruit person to find volunteers
Be the contact person for other organizations to contact when they want to volunteer.


Most of this position can be done via the phone and the computer. There will be occasional meetings to attend. Hours will vary depending on the various TEC events. Approximately 2 hours a week.

Rider Coordinator

This volunteer position requires:

Excellent communication skills
The ability to work without direct supervision
Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
Work in conjunction with riding instructors, other TEC staff, riders and their families
Being respectful of confidential information
Access to a computer and ability to email etc.


Responsibilities include:

Contacting new riders that have indicated an interest in TEC
Getting application forms to new riders
Reviewing new rider application forms to assure they are complete, name tag made; file made for rider
Renewing existing riders on a yearly basis
Contact riders about riding in next session
Review rider surveys at the end of a session


Majority of this position can be done via the phone and on the computer. Some time will need to be spent at the barn in the TEC office. Most of the activity will occur at the beginning and end of a 6-8 week session. Approximately 3 hours a week during that time.

Equipment Coordinator

This volunteer position requires:

Knowledge of English and Western Tack. Ability to work without direct supervision. Work in conjunction with TEC staff and volunteers

The Riding Equipment Coordinator is responsible for:

Work with TEC volunteers and staff to organize and maintain tack, saddle pads, horse blankets, brushes, and items used for riding lessons
Inventory items in tack rooms
With TEC staff determine what items to keep or sell
Research items TEC wishes to acquire for best price, quality etc.
Work with volunteers to sell equipment TEC cannot use
The hours are flexible and will vary approximately 1 hour a week.
